KNLS Mandate

Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) Board is a statutory body of the Government of Kenya established by an Act of parliament Cap 225 of Laws of Kenya in 1965. The Board’s mandate is to develop, promote, establish and equip Libraries in Kenya.

Mission

To Establish Library facilities and provide appropriate reading and Information Materials to all Communities in Kenya.

Historical Development

The Development of Libraries has evolved in phases starting with provincial District and Community level.  The Development of these Libraries has been possible with the Support of Government grants, Donors and Community participation.  As of January 2007 the entire KNLS Network has 8 Provincial Seven Districts and 26 Community based Libraries.
